Thom McMullen Residential Landscape Design

Residential Design

Residential design services range in scope and complexity based on client need.

  • Phase One: Some seek basic foundation planting designs for the front, back and/or sides of their homes. These designs could include plantings only or may also include simple hardscape elements such as walls, walks, lighting placement and fence suggestions.
  • Phase Two: Other clients require a plan for the – front, back or side yards with more extensive hardscape elements and planting design.
  • Phase Three and Four: Some property owners require a larger space to be design or a master plan for the entire property that may be completed in stages in accordance with their budget. Contact with local building departments maybe made
during these phases to determine appropriate
    set back and zoning requirements.

We look at pricing these various potential landscape designs as design phases.

Phase One Design

A Phase One Design is a simple planting design for a small space that may be in the front, back or side foundation of a home. It may also include a small area around an existing pool or patio. A privacy planting or perennial garden could also be included in a Phase One design. A listing of all suggested plantings would be included in a Phase Two design. This phase could include simple Hardscape elements.

Phase Two Design

A Phase Two design incorporates a Phase One design and also includes a design with more extensive hardscape elements or a larger space. A simple water feature may also be part of the phase.

Phase Three Design

A Phase Three Design is larger in scale and size and has additional design elements not included in Phases One or Two. Phase Three designs could include the design and placement of a gunite or liner pool and patio, placement of a pool house and pool equipment, pergola, outside kitchen/bar area, fireplaces and fencing. It may also encompass design of an entire front or back yard with all elements necessary to create a better traffic flow, screen unsightly vistas or simply provide greater curb appeal. The placement of large scale water gardens, gazebos, spas and sport courts (tennis and basketball) may also be part of a Phase Three design.

Phase Four Design

A Phase Four design is a full plot master landscape plan. It will encompass all of the above phases and provide the owner with a comprehensive plan that can be implemented all at once or over time as budget allows. This phase could also show proper home placement on the site based upon completed architectural plans.
