Design Process
Introductory Meeting
The landscape design process begins with a complimentary on-site consultation to discuss your needs and vision for your outdoor space. We’ll review the phases of the design process and discuss delivery of a final design plan.
Proposal
Following the introductory meeting, a proposal will be developed detailing the areas and scope of the proposed design plan. The proposal will specify the number of on-site meetings that are to be included. Additional meetings are available and are subject to an hourly rate.
Site Inventory and Analysis
Once the initial deposit and plot plan (if required) are received, work on you design will begin. Several site visits will be made (no appointment will be necessary) to survey the site to take measurements, reference photographs, and determine “compass north” to identify the sun’s positioning. Additionally, all existing permanent fixtures and buildings on the property will be noted.
Preliminary Design Review (if necessary)
After site visits and office drafting, a preliminary hardscape plan will be developed. The plan will show all applicable bed lines, patios (size and shape), pool/spa location (size and shape), fence lines, walls, walks, fireplace/ fire pit location, sheds, proposed driveway location and design, play areas, water gardens and sports/tennis courts. It may also include major plant groupings such as shade trees or screen plantings. The designs will be presented to you on- site for discussion and approval. Upon approval of the preliminary design, the planting design phase will commence.
The design may require revisions. If design changes are substantial, additional site meetings may be needed.
Final Design
After the approval of the preliminary hardscape design, additional hardscape details will be added and plant material will be identified to complement the approved hardscape plan. The final landscape plan will include a plant ledger specifying the variety of the selected plants, proposed size at installation and other pertinent information to help you visualize the plants (e.g., flower color, bloom time, spring and fall foliage, berry color or plant growth pattern, etc.).
If you chose to install the plants yourself, the final plant list can be used to obtain material quotes from a local nursery, or included with the design to obtain bids from landscape contractors. We are happy to recommended landscape contractors that we have worked with in the past.
Questions & Site Visits
We are happy to answer any questions you may have as you work through your installation. Additional site visits can be made to review site layout, specimen tree selection and plant placement. Additional site visits may be subject to an hourly rate.
Final payment is due upon delivery of the approved design plan.
