Hardscape consists of the inanimate, non-organic elements of landscaping. For example: walls, walks, patios, decks, arbors, fences, water features, pools, fireplaces, outside kitchens, gazebos, tennis/play courts and driveways.
The direction in which a compass needle points to determine geographical direction – North. Once North is identified, East, West and South are also known and the direction of the rising and setting sun.
A concrete mixture sprayed under pressure over steel reinforcements, as in making swimming pools.
A Plant Ledger lists information on specific plants being proposed on a landscape plan. This would include the plant code (as shown on the landscape design), plant name and variety, plant quantity, size at installation and may include plant descriptions such as Flower and Foliage color, berry color and growth habits.
A plot plan is an architectural or engineered overhead view which shows existing/proposed buildings in relationship to property lines – to scale. It may also show utility (water, electric and sewer) line locations, septic design, easements, setbacks (i.e., to wetland, property lines and street) existing trees, vegetation and grades.
Softscape is the organic horticultural elements of the landscape, i.e., trees, shrubs, perennials and groundcovers.
